Ethics and History

As you can read in The Basics of Ethics, man has been trying for a long time to sort out the difference between ethics, morals and justice. This article gives the difference between them and why we need these in the first place.

To Help or Not to Help ?

That is an interesting question. Probably a better one would be "Who to help or who not to help?" You tried to help someone and got stabbed in the back for it. Or you didn't help a person and they got in worse trouble than if you would have given them a hand. So what do you do?

Precept #1 of the Code of Honor is: Never desert a comrade in need, in danger or in trouble.
Now remember, this is a code of luxury and it cannot be enforced on you. I bet you can think of several people, past and present, in your life that truly need some help of any kind. It could be as simple as helping them come up with a solution that could solve their own problems.

Look at how you can put this first code to use in you lives. There is no wrong answer to this, except perhaps not doing anything at all !

Scientology's System of Ethics

You have heard about Ethics or at least heard the term. There is the Ethics Committee in congress, and businesses have Ethics Officers. What is Ethics and what is the Scientology system of ethics? That information you a read below.

The Scientology system of ethics is based wholly on reason.

L. Ron Hubbard has defined ethics as “reason and the contemplation of optimum survival.” He has also pointed out: “Dishonest conduct is non survival. Anything is unreasonable or evil which brings about the destruction of individuals, groups, or inhibits the future of the race.”
Ethics may be defined as the actions an individual takes on himself to ensure his continued survival across the dynamics. It is a personal thing. When one is ethical, it is something he does himself by his own choice.

The Scientology ethics system includes a body of technology called conditions formulas. L. Ron Hubbard discovered that there are various states of existence and that there are exact formulas connected with these states. A person can determine what condition any area of his life is in and apply a formula to immediately improve this condition. While very simple, such actions are quite powerful and have enabled millions of individuals to improve their lives in ways never thought possible.

Another part of Scientology’s ethics system is what is known as Confessionals. Man has long postulated a means by which he could put himself on the right path. As long ago as 500 B.C., religions recognized that confession frees a person spiritually from the burden of sin. In Scientology, it has been found that a Confessional (a type of auditing) assists the person who has transgressed against his own and his group’s moral code to unburden himself and again feel good about himself and be a contributing member of the group.

As L. Ron Hubbard has written: “No man who is not himself honest can be free — he is his own trap. When his own deeds cannot be disclosed, then he is a prisoner; he must withhold himself from his fellows and is a slave to his own conscience.”

These are just two of the tools from the wealth of ethics technology that exists in Scientology. Complete information on this subject is contained in Introduction to Scientology Ethics by L. Ron Hubbard. Click here to buy the book.

Introduction to the Code of Honor

In November 1954, Dianetics and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote the Code of Honor.

What is unique about this code is that it is NOT a moral code that can be enforced but it actually a code of luxury.

We have moral codes all over the place. Most of them were taken from experience in that they were committing those acts were more harmful than helpful. Sometimes a code could get passed that should be a luxury code and was turned into a moral code. Years ago (late 1990's, early 2000's) there was an incident I believe here in Washington State, where a child was unfortunately killed and the mother attempted to have a law passed where it would have been MANDATORY that you help a person in danger and it would have been enforceable. That is an example of making a code of luxury into a moral code.

Therefore, it is code that is used by the self determined decision of the person to follow it. To quote Mr. Hubbard's comment on it;

“If you believed man was worthy enough to be granted by you sufficient stature so as to permit you to exercise gladly the Code of Honor, I can guarantee that you would be a happy person. And if you found an occasional miscreant falling away from the best standards you have developed, you yet did not turn away from the rest of man, and if you discovered yourself betrayed by those you were seeking to defend and yet did not then experience a complete reversal of opinion about all your fellow men, there would be no dwindling spiral for you.

“The only difference between paradise on Earth and hell on Earth is whether or not you believe your fellow man worthy of receiving from you the friendship and devotion called for in this Code of Honor.”

Moral Codes we live by

Every Religion has their own moral code and Scientology is no exception. Here is the question answered as taken from the book What is Scientology?. We will take up one of these codes (The Code of Honor) and go through one each week as they are good to know and live by.

What moral codes do Scientologists live by?
There are four main codes that Scientologists apply in life. One is the Auditor’s Code, which gives the basic rules an auditor must abide by to ensure excellent auditing results. Another is the Code of a Scientologist, guidelines which Scientologists agree to follow in order to achieve the aims of Scientology. There is an ethical code, called the Code of Honor, that Scientologists follow in their day-to-day activities with their fellow men. L. Ron Hubbard also has written a nonreligious moral code called The Way to Happiness which gives basic precepts for a happy life. This moral code is used by Scientologists and non-Scientologists alike, and tens of millions of copies have been distributed in communities all around the world.

More on Flourishing and Prospering

If you read yesterday's blog, you discovered that to flourish and prosper is the only way to survive in this society. If fact, if you ever wanted to get even with people who put you down, there is no deadlier way to do so than doing the above.

That is what we do in Scientology and will continue to do despite any obstacles we may have to overcome.

A way to start flourishing and prospering is to have a knowledge and command over the mind, spirit and life. The Beginning Books of Dianetics and Scientology give you those basics. Those who say you shouldn't have knowledge of or mess with the mind are just tying to hold you down.

Stop in our church of any other Scientology church in your area. As has been mentioned before on this blog; Find Out For Yourself !

What Does Success Depend On?

We have all had this. Sometimes other people seek to crush you down and make nothing out of your hopes and dreams. The do it by making fun of you, lying and by many other means, all to try to bring one's downfall. So in spite of all of that, what does one's success depend on?

The one thing you can do is to Flourish and Prosper which is the final precept out of the book, The Way to Happiness

The Definition of Flourish: to be in a state of activity and production. expanding in influence; thriving; visibly doing well.

The definition of Prosper: to achieve economic success at what one does.

What, are such people who are trying to holding you down attempting to do? They are attempting to reduce you downward. The real way to defeat such a person or group is to Flourish and Prosper.

And of course by doing so they will get frantic and attack harder. Handle them if you need to but don't give up flourishing and prospering because that is what they want you to do, right?

So continue to flourish and prosper despite the obstacles that may get in your way. In this society, that is the only way to win !

The Third Party Law

We mentioned the Scientologists view life as a game. As in all good and worthwhile endeavors, there are conflicts that attempt to mess that game up. How is that accomplished?

Here is an article called The Third Party Law that shows one way it is done. If the governments of the world knew this information, and could apply it, the world would be a better place.

Scientology and Life

There is never a dull moment in Scientology. A question could be asked of how life is looked at from the viewpoint of a Scientologist? Here is the answer taken from the What is Scientology? book.

" As a game — a game in which everyone can win. Scientologists are optimistic about life and believe there is hope for a saner world and better civilization and are actively doing all they can to achieve this."

What Goes Around, ...

This precept in The Way to Happiness come at a perfect time since this past week we've been mentioning Chaos Merchants and other things that make the environment dangerous.

There is a more subtle thing that can take place but the rippling effects are no less damaging. Have you ever got upset about something that happened and found yourself taking it out on someone else? Or had the reverse happen to you for more reason?

This Precept is not call "The Golden Rule" but called Try Not To Do Things To Others That You Would Not Like Them To Do To You. Long title, similar principle. Here is a test you could do. Before committing an act, ask yourself;
" Would I want the same thing to happen to myself, my family or friends?"

In a time where some feel no restraint from doing harmful acts, the survival potential of the individual (and the society) is at a very low ebb.

Religious Beliefs

A good definition of Religion would be The Search for Truth. That is what the main religions are doing are attempting to do - just in different ways.

So whether you agree with another person's religious beliefs or not, the one thing we can do is respect their viewpoint and beliefs.

Precept #18 is Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others. Click on the link and it explains itself.
